Responsibilities will include, but not be limited to, the following: • Managing and directing operations by coordinating with supervisor, other staff agencies, and professional groups such as the Planning Commission, City Council, Board of Zoning Appeals, and business or civic groups; reviewing and scheduling work requirements, developing schedules, evaluating progress, and recording significant events and activities; • Interpreting and administering the City of Chesapeake's zoning ordinance; coordinating related enforcement programs; • Developing and maintaining the policies and procedures related to the interpretation of all applicable laws, ordinances and regulations; • Making recommendations for changes in ordinances and regulations relative to zoning and other codes; • Overseeing and coordinating through subordinates the review of site plans and applications for zoning permits and other permits and certificates required by the zoning ordinance; • Overseeing the resolution of disputes over violations through counseling or negotiation with parties involved and the initiation of other actions as required, including legal processes; Requirements The minimum qualifications for the position of Zoning Administrator include a bachelor's degree, or education and training equivalent to four years of college education in urban planning, public administration, or a closely related field, and a minimum of six years of progressively responsible experience in zoning and code enforcement work, including considerable supervisory experience in either of these areas. Certified Zoning Official and Certified Zoning Administrator by State or nationally recognized organization. Also requires a valid driver's license with a driving record that is in compliance with the City's Driving Standards. Attendance at night meetings is required.
